Majority of users especially those who install Kali Linux for the first time in their computers, they cannot login to their account though they know the username and password or maybe they have forgotten the password of their accounts. So there are some simple steps by which you can learn that how to reset username and password in Kali Linux.
Step 1: Open the Kali Linux and try to login, if you cannot log in and the password which you enter does not work, go to the right top corner click Restart.
Step 2: In the second, when it restarts always comes two options, select the second option (Advance Options for Kali GNU/Linux) and press the Enter from the keyboard.
Step 3: Again two options will appear for you, so you have to select the second one (Kali GNU/Linux, with Linux 4.13.0-Kali1-amd64 (recovery mode)) then press (e) for boot menu. Do not press Enter.
Step 4: You will see some new options. You have to eliminate the (o) from (sda1 ro single initrd) and at the end of this line (when this line completely finishes) or when (install/gtk/initrd.org) then give space and type (init=/bin/bash).
Step 5: After typing (init=/bin/bash) you should press (F10) for rebooting. F10 works in Dell computers in Hyper- V and computer both, but for HP you have to take pressed (Windows Key then press F10) in Hyper- V. After rebooting a new page with black background will appears. Type (passwd root) click Enter. Then type (root) and type it again it again. When you type the words you type a.re invisible but do not worry just type it and proceed. You will the message (Password Updated Successfully).
Step 6: Close the page and open the Kali Linux again, this turn type (root) for username and password both of them. Do not type with capital letters just type with small letters then you will see that Kali Linux will open.
Step 7: Congratulations! You are done.
