In this post you will learn the Technic of How to Configure and Secure a Wi-Fi Router.
Majority of Wi-Fi routers are always being hacked because their owners do not know how to configure and secure their Wi-Fi routers. If a router is hacked and many users use that, of course that routers leave working well. We should check our router’s configuration because sometimes people get our Wi-Fi router’s password that is why at the end of month we have to pay a lot of money though we have not used that much. So if you want to know that how to configure and secure your Wi-Fi routers, just follow step by step and do whatever you read in this post.
How to Configure and Secure a Wi-Fi Router
Step 01: For bringing changes to a Wi-Fi Router firstly, connect your computers to that router which you want configure and secure. If you do not connect computer first, you will not be able to configure and secure that router.
Step 02: When your computer is connected with the router then take pressed the windows key and press R (Windows Key + R). Type cmd in the Run and hit the Enter Button.
Step 03: Type (ipconfig) in command prompt then you will get a list of IP addresses. Among those IP addresses, select the Default Gateway (192.168.0.1). Right click on it for copying the selected, but right click for copying the texts in cmd just works in Microsoft Windows 10. If you use windows 7, 8 and 8.1 just right click on selected texts and click on the copy.
Step 04: Open browser in your computer and paste it in search bar and press Enter. Does not matter whichever browser you use, it is not necessary to just install Google Chrome.
Step 05: The username and password of routers are admin, admin. If these username and password do not work, take pressed the Reset Button of router for some seconds. After some seconds all lights of router turn on, after that leave the button. When router resets then try again the same username and password.
Step 06: When you get all settings of the routers you can bring any changes you want. Go the Wireless Setting and then click on Basic settings for changing name of router. Delete the first name then type a new name and press Save.
Step 07: For changing the password again go the Wireless Settings then click on Wireless Security. If you want to give a strong password you have to use capital letter, small letter, symbols and numbers.
Step 08: Sometimes it happens that we want to filter some one’s IP address, may they use illegally from our Wi-Fi. So on that time we need to block that user. For filtering, go to the DHCP than click on Client Lists and see which MAC Address you want to filter. Select the MAC Address of user then copy that MAC Address, but do not copy the IP address. If you copy the IP Address it will not work because router changes IP Addresses after sometimes. After copying the MAC Address go to the Wireless and then click on Wireless MAC Filter. You will see a new page, click on Add New. Paste your MAC Address and type something on Description (a name or something else in order to remember that name). Right click on Status and select Disable at last click Save.
Note: Afterwards saving changes click on Disable for enabling the changes, but be aware of one that do not select Allow. If you select Allow in facts you have filtered all devices which are connected to the router you have given permission of using only to the user which you wanted to filter. You have to select Deny and you can filter many devices at the same time by clicking on Add New.
Step 09: In many places people cannot use from a Wi-Fi more than 5 or 6 devices at the same time because someone has limited their Wi-Fi routers. So, if you want to eliminate the limitation of a router go to the DHCP then click on DHCP Settings. If you want to remove the limitation of a router change the End IP address. You have to give IP Address as many want such as for 10 devices, type 192.168.0.110. For limiting a router just change the ending IP address to as many you want. For Example, for 5 devices, type 192.168.0.105. You must be aware of that after limiting, you will not be able to use more than 5 devices at the same time.
Step 10: Every user can change the password and can bring changes to a DHCP because they are connected to the device. Knowing of a Wi-Fi router’s password will be very easy, if everybody has the admin of a DHCP. It is the last step of how to configure and secure our Wi-Fi routers. For changing admin go to the System Tool and click on Password. As you know that the default username and password of a router are admin and admin. So,type (admin) for old username and password. You can type whatever you want new username and new password.
Old User Name = admin
Old Password = admin
